Yes, This Is a Blatant MetaphorI wonder if a caterpillar has any clue what kind of change it's embarking upon as it spins it's crysalis or cocoon.
I wonder if the moth or butterfly even realizes just how different it is after it's emerged. It surely feels tired. It probably hurt being in there, as anyone's body hurts when they grow. Undoubtedly it knows there was a change, it feels the change... and it can see the change in it's life.
The butterfly has lost it's old form, and been given a new identity. It's got a freedom it didn't previously have, that it couldn't previously have in it's old form.
Butterflies and moths aren't meant to creep along the ground or up the sides of plants like caterpillars. They have a new purpose, they have new surroundings. They are a new creation, and the old is gone.
But if a butterfly lands among caterpillars for just a few brief moments, it might look around and see the difference first hand. It sees what it once was, and I doubt it has the desire to go back.
